The Cochlear Implant :: deaf community

The Cochlear ImplantThe cochlear implant is possibly one of the greatestinventions designed to benefit the deaf community. Acochlear implant is a device implanted internally behind adeaf persons ear with an external microphone, and isdesigned to provide artificial sounds to masses who experiencenerve deafness in both ears and show no ability tounderstand pitch through hearing aids. Since thedevelopment of the cochlear implant in the 1960s, morethan 10,000 people worldwide surrender been implanted with thisdevice.Although this may seem like the perfect device to aiddeafness, a lot of controversy compose exists about the cochlearimplant. There are many advantages and disadvantagesabout the implant. I will start by discussing the advantages. The cochlear implant has allowed many deaf people to liveout hearing lives. During the 1960s, more primitiveimplants allowed for partial hearing, the percentage of wordsthat could be understood without lip reading was about 12%, that with modern technology, that number has risen to about80%, making conversations with a deaf person and a hearingperson possible through speech without the use of signlanguage. Deaf people who have experienced hearing andlanguage skills previously, benefit much more from theimplant because they do not have to learn new sounds orwords.Although the cochlear implant can benefit deaf peoplegreatly, there are still many disadvantages. Of the 15 gazillionpeople in the U.S. with significant hearing loss. Less than 1%are potential candidates the the cochlear implant. There is nostandardized criteria for accepting or rejecting a candidate, but they often need to meet audiological, medical, andpsychological criteria. As with all surgeries, there is somedegree of risk, but because of the anatomical location beingso close to the brain, these risks are much greater. Eventhough the cochlear implant may be suitable for more deaf

Analysis of An American Tragedy and What Makes it a Classic :: An American Tragedy Theodore Dreiser Essays

Analysis of An American Tragedy and What Makes it a Classic An American Tragedy is an intriguing, frighteningly real journey into the mind of a murderer. It is a biography of its era. And, it is also historical fiction. But what makes this novel a classic? mend society has changed dramatically since 1925, Dreisers novel, which shows the futility of The American Dream and the tragedies that trying to live it can cause, accurately summarizes social mores of this and any time period. Before Theodore Dreiser was born, his father, a devout German immigrant, lost everything when his large woolen mill burned down (kirjasto.sci.fi 1). After a beam hit his head, Dreisers father was subject to dramatic mood swings this brain damage caused him to became an evangelist (Survey of American Literature 571). Theodore Dreiser, the twelfth of 13 children, was born in Terre Haute, Indiana, in 1871. By this time, his parents were poor, nomadic preachers. Their nomadic lifestyle meant that Dreiser did not have any companions outside his family. While travelling, his mother taught him to avoid degrading and destructive experiences (Hart 236). Certain that his parents were failures because of their strong morals and their constant preaching, he rebelled. Dreiser had no friends, money, social status, or sex life, which he craved. For about Americans, these were collectively The American Dream. For Dreiser and his most famous character, Clyde Griffiths, living the American Dream -- the evasive pinnacle of success -- became an obsession. That obsession led 13-year old Dreiser to Indiana University, which he flunked out of. Instead of preaching, he instantly abandoned his unsuccessful family for the promise of riches and women in industrial Chicago. After living in abject indigence for years (Parker 203), he worked as a journalist for both Chicago Globe and St. Louiss Globe-Democrat, which gave him a glimpse of high society. There, he married Sara White. Within months, the cardinal s eparated permanently, and Dreiser became a nomad. While wandering, he studied the writings of Balzac, Darwin, Freud, Hawthorne, Huxley (wwnorton.com 1), Poe, and Spenser, from which he created two philosophical theories social Darwinism governs society (Parker 203), and mans greatest appetite is sexual (kirjasto.sci.fi 1). Dreiser followed his philosophical system he typically had several affairs at once.In New York, Dreiser started Sister Carrie, a brilliant naturalistic piece. The book was sold only viosterol copies it was so scandalous that its owned publishers censored its printing in 1900 (Bucco 5).

Effect Of Tension On Resonance And Amplitude :: Papers

Effect Of Tension On Resonance And Amplitude PLANNING Aim The aim of the try is to investigate the effect of tension on resonance and amplitude of a string. Basis Personal Knowledge This experiment is based on the resonance, frequency and amplitude. From what I have learnt in class and everyday life, I know that when a string of any kind is pluck, it moves to and fro. The movement wee-wees the air molecules around it to vibrate. When it moves fast enough, the vibrations cause a sound to be heard. Research Some research was carried out into the principles on which the experiment is based. The frequency of an oscillation is defined as the number of cycles kill per unit time (Salters Horners Advanced Physics) That is for a spring the time taken for it to move to and fro once is its frequency. Frequency is measured in Hertz (Hz). Each aim has its own natural frequency. (Physics For You by Keith Johnson). Resonance occurs when the applied frequen cy equals the natural frequency of the object. Therefore when the string to be used in the experiment is plucked and the applied frequency equals its natural frequency then resonance occurs. The resonant frequency of a string can be increased by * cut down the length * Increasing the tension * Using a lighter string Variables and Constants The experiment is basically concerned with the effect that the tension will have on the frequency and amplitude. Therefore, the basic variable will be the tension of the string. The constant in this case would be the thickness of the string, as it will not be changed. This should ensure that the experiment is fairly accurate as its thickness can affect the resonance. Application of Principles The principles of frequency, resonance and amplitude are largely applied in many engineering projects. The understanding of the above principle is vital to ensure that bridges are safe to travel on.

Free Julius Caesar Essays: The Role of the Mob :: Julius Caesar Essays

The Role of the Mob in Julius Caesar The most important characters of the adjoin Julius Caesar ar clearly the citizens of Rome. The citizens have an important effect on both the audience and the characters in the play because of their unlimited desire to stormily express their emotions. Throughout the play these emotions are communicated through various events. The first event is the celebration of the feast of the Lupercal. It was the citizens positive reaction to Caesar during his triumphant return after his victory everywhere the sons of Pompey that provide the fear of caesars becoming king. The citizens opposition to Pompeys allies caused great disturbances in the streets because a short while before, Pompey was their hero. Now Caesar, victorious, is the hero of the hour. Their response besides influenced the idea that Caesar was becoming too ambitious. Thus, the citizens of Rome had a role in the fate of Julius Caesar. A later example occurs during the funeral orat ion by Mark Antony. Brutus logically gives his reasons that necessitated Caesars death. He informs them that he acted out of love of Rome and his desire to prevent tyrants from controlling her. The citizens embrace his words with cheers and understanding. However, their mood alters when Antony offers his interpretation of the situation. He passionately described the deeds Caesar performed in behalf of the citizens of Rome, which clearly contradict the opinion of the conspirators that Caesar was too ambitious. Antony carefully uses irony in referring to Cassius and Brutus as honorable men the strategy wins over the citizens and they listen with growing anger to his words. He leads the citizens to the body and begins to show the brutal results of the murder while simultaneously influencing them to believe that the conspirators are murderers and traitors. Ultimately, Antony reads Caesars will, which leaves his parks, private estates, and impudently planted gardens to the citizens of R ome.

Our Country’s Good, Acting Advice For Act Essay

The motion-picture show starts off with just Ralph. I think I would tell the participant to look studious and intellectual, as Ralph would be making every effort to make the play to a very high standard so he can impress Captain Phillip in the hope of getting the promotion he has desired for some time. The mood should then change as before long as Shitty Meg enters on stage. She should walk on with a tarty stride. She is old and thoroughly unattractive but she makes an over enthused effort to look glamorous and highly sexual. She should move toward Ralph in a very intimidating manor. Her sexual innuendoes should be delivered with a knowledgably bawdy t unitary and charisma, I can play Lieutenant, I can play with any part you like. When trying to convince Ralph into giving her a part in his play, You dont want a young woman peculiar, Lieutenant, they dont know nothing, I think she should grab Ralphs leg as soon as she says the identify Shut your look and Ill play you as tight as a virgin. Ralph should seem very intimidated and should jump up and derriere a stylus from her in disgust. Meg should continue like this until Ralph has enough and shouts Long .At this point Meg should be slightly scared of Ralphs rage but she keeps face by accusing Ralph of being a homosexual, We thought you was a madge cull, she should say her lines in a patronising matter-of-fact way to try and lower Ralphs high persona of himself. The comic mood should continue when obliquely comes on the stage. He should be lively and full of component as he is your typical capital of the United Kingdom geezer. He delivers his first few lines with an almost fake admiration for Ralph I am c wholeing you Mr Clarke as one calls Mr Garick Mr Garick. Sideway should have a very in-your-face attitude to Ralph.Ralph should be very intimidated and suspicious but remain on the spot in a very militaristic manner to give the impress that he is not phased by Sideways very forward and friendly approach. Dabby should push Mary forward quite forcefully after saying her line You asked to see Mary Brenham, Lieutenant. Here she is.Mary is still very anxious and still doesnt show any sort of interest in Ralph whatsoever. He intimidates her because he is one of the officers and she is also scared because she is about to audition for a play. Ralph should seem keen to want to talk to Mary rather than Dabby, purely because he is smitten with her Do you know what a play is? . Dabby to him is just an villainy Ive seen lots of plays, Lieutenant, so has Mary. Mary must still remain quiet and nervous (this shown in the stage directions when it says that should say some of her lines inaudibly.Although Dabby is very keen to get Mary he r part in the play because she feels that Ralph would be a good person for Mary to be with and sleep with on the ship Mary wants to be in your play, Lieutenant but should be very obvious about the fact that she wants in the play as healthy and so do I. Ralph wants to make sure he gives Mary the impression that he wants her to be in the play by telling her all of the good things that separate people have said about her The Reverend Johnson told me you could read and write, Brenham. The first time that Ralphs and Marys meet should be when they both start reading the play to each other, whilst there is life there is hope. Every time the two look each other in the eyes when they are reading the play the looks should be held and prolonged to show an obvious attraction from both of them. Ralph for the first time in this scene is above the convicts and seems to have intellectual superiority over the two of them. The actor should say this lines in quite a patronising way not because he wan ts the convicts to know their place but because that is how he treats everyone This is a comedy, they dont really mean it.Mary should seem very innocent and like a little girl. Especially when Ralph tries to explain the plot of the story which is rather bizarre she falls in love with Silvia. In the stage directions it actually says Mary begins to giggle but tries to hold it back. The mood then changes drastically as soon as Liz enters. Her stride should show that she is aggressive and very confident. Mary should very subtly sneak away and not say anything. Dabby and Liz should give each other evil glares. It says in the stage directions about the characters each retention her ground, each ready to pounce. Ralph should seem unphased purely because he knows nothing of the hostility between the two characters Dabby You cant have her in the play, Lieutenant. Ralph wherefore not? Lizs anger just mounts until the point at which she nearly cracks, the stage directions say that she looks briefly at Dabby, as if to strike, then changes her mind. Therefore, the company should develop and initial promotion strategy in order to gain some market share in Singapore. The company can start with giving free samples in order to create free publicity. another(prenominal) form of advertising that Godiva can introduce is the Godiva Theater. Godiva Theater is a domestic strategy that can be used in promotion of products, in Singapore.Customers through this promotion strategy can watch their chocolate products produced through the glass viewing area, and they can, therefore, enjoy chocolate fresh made. The strategy of unifying Godiva image globally is a viable strategy. However, having conflicting brand images can cause confusion and misunderstanding between markets, as well as in the company. Since Singapore is a technologically advanced state, Godiva should design its adv ertising to be mostly on televisions and internet. The company should also try to get a celebrity to use in advertising. This is because having a celebrity or a role model promote the chocolate products, as well as the companys image will increase the interest of Godiva and its products. The company, once the brand is accepted in the market can go back to the word of mouth form of advertising. Godiva Company uses two types of production methods in manufacturing various sizes and shapes of the chocolates products. They include enrobing and shell-molding. Shell molding is mostly practiced in Europe and is used in manufacturing most of the Godiva chocolates. This method has enabled the company to design unique olds, giving them unique style, and sophisticated confections, which are easily recognized as Godiva. When these collections of the shell-molded chocolates are packed in one of the stylish package, they become appealing even to the most discerning customers in the market. Conclusi on and good words Godiva is one of the most prominent companies in the chocolate industry. According to the above analysis, this company is highly preferred by many lovers of chocolate in all the place its has set stores. In Singapore particularly, the company is exceedingly doing well. This is because of its exceptional chocolate products in terms of quality, packaging and variety of chocolate products. The company, therefore, despite the increase in the prices of its products still attracts a substantial number of customers that can sustain it in the market. My recommendation would be since according to forecast, the Singapore economy is expected to rise in the future, which means the people earnings will go up including the youth of under 30 years, the products should be given a youthful appearance to attract the youth. This will consequently increase the target market for Godiva products.

Dell E Marketing

dingle Enhances Online Marketing Capabilities and Improves internet site Performance with duty host 2000 Published September 2001 To improve performance and modify complex online marketing campaigns, dingle upgraded its online commerce platform from Microsoft place Server 3. 0 Commerce Edition to Commerce Server 2000. The waxy component-based architecture and across-the-board prebuilt functionality in Commerce Server en adequate to(p)d dell to implement its bracing campaign capabilities in just six weeks of development time. The comprehensive campaign care arrangement integrates with Dells existing customer relationship management (CRM) dodge, moving the confederation much closer to its goal of a true closed-loop online marketing environment. phoner Overview Dell Computer Corporation is the worlds leading direct computer system provider, with the companys award-winning customer service, industry-leading growth, and superior pecuniary performance continuing to differen tiate Dell from its competitors. At the heart of this success is Dells direct-to-customer business model, enabling the company to maximize its ability to assemble customer expectations while avoiding the unnecessary time and costs associated with retailers or other resellers. To Dell, the Internet is the purest and most efficient form of the direct model, providing colossaler convenience and efficiency to customers and, in turn, to Dell. To Dell, direct refers to the companys relationships with its customers, from home PC users to the worlds largest corporations. Approximately one-third of Dells U. S. 28 billion in annual revenues is passd through the companys Home and Small Business (HSB) Division, with the remainder generated from sales to medium and large businesses and institutional customers. HSB in like manner maintains birthership of Dells online accessories store, which offers users a complete selection of nearly 30,000 competitively priced software and peripheral mer chandises from leading manufacturers, carefully selected to complement Dells systems. Business contest As a premier system provider to many other e-commerce companies, Dell strongly believes in using the products it recommends and sells.Toward this end, Dell traditionally has relied on Microsoft Site Server 3. 0 Commerce Edition (SSCE) to provide signifi washbowlt portions of the e-commerce functionality needed for Dells complex sack site. Site Server 3. 0 provided great shopping cart and checkout functionality along with other benefits, besides we were still looking for ways to improve performance and get closer to our customers, says Gregg Hansen, Development tutor for Dell HSB. Specifically, we wanted the ability to implement campaigns and use coupons. This presented challenges due to the heterogeneous environment we had in place, with commerce functionality provided by SSCE, customer data residing in a third-party CRM solution, and a mixed bag of applications used to mine the data. Solution To improve performance and facilitate complex online marketing campaigns, Dell decided to upgrade from Microsoft Site Server to Commerce Server 2000. The company took a kindd approach, first upgrading to Commerce Server to achieve greater performance and stability, followed by implementation of the impudently functionality it provided that would improve the companys e-marketing capabilities. The componentized nature of Commerce Server 2000 allowed us to easily break the project into chassiss, says Hansen. Phase one consisted of upgrading the platform before the holiday lockdown, with phase two focused on implementing the new functionality provided by Commerce Server 2000 to improve our campaign capabilities. Phase 1 Greater Performance and Stability compound Management Capabilities After phase one, consisting primarily of the platform upgrade from Site Server to Commerce Server 2000, Dell saw significant performance improvements in the areas of shopping cart ma nagement and user checkout. We took advantage of the improved Commerce Server 2000 platform to increase performance by up to 100 portion in close to areas, says Hansen. While our upgrade to Windows 2000 last year resulted in much better stability and performance, migrating from SSCE to Commerce Server 2000 has led to additional improvements in these areassomething I attribute to the elimination of memory leaks and better use of the platforms core objects. As a result, the servers no longer require the enumerate of attention that they used to. The platform upgrade also provided Dell with significant benefits in the area of system administration and management. The new management functionality in Commerce Server 2000 has enabled us to move away from a server-by-server management environment to a more centralized one, says Hansen. The Microsoft Management Console snap-ins for Commerce Server 2000 flip it easier to manage the large numbers of servers we employ and to bring new boxe s online as we continue to grow. Phase 2 Comprehensive Campaign Management In phase two of the project, Dell took advantage of the extensive new prebuilt functionality in Commerce Server 2000 to enable targeted marketing campaigns. Using the new components inCommerce Server 2000, we were able to implement the functionality needed to build the concept of a campaign, tie it to a discount, and enforce itall with just six weeks development time, says Hansen. Had we tried to do it on our own and build this functionality from scratch, it would have taken six months. As part of this effort, Dell created a custom Commerce Server 2000 Business solve Pipeline (BPP) component to handle coupons created for each campaign. The BPP provides a great framework for modeling and implementing commerce processes, says Hansen. Its plug-in architecture makes it highly flexible and extensible, enabling us to achieve the overall functionality we need by combining out-of-the-box pipeline components with o thers that are either internally developed or purchased from a third party. Pipeline performance has also been greatly increased over the previous version, resulting in better than 100 percent increases in some areas. To allow business users to easily implement campaigns, Dell uses the Commerce Server 2000 Business Desk. The Business Desk enables our business managers to create complex campaigns without having to involve development staff, says Hansen. We created extensions to the Business Desk that enable users to interact with our third-party CRM system to import lists of customers for a campaign. They can use the expression builder to define the campaign rules and create the coupons, which are then passed back to the CRM system for the e-mail campaign. When these customers are driven to the site, the new Commerce Server 2000 functionality weve implemented tracks the users, enforces the campaign rules, and calculates the appropriate discounts. Moving Forward with Commerce Server 2000With Dells new campaign management system now in production, Hansen is looking at other Commerce Server 2000 features to further enhance the companys online marketing capabilities. Were looking at the Commerce Server 2000 Targeting System to make product recommendations based on real-time customer behavior, which should significantly improve our ability to cross-sell additional items, says Hansen. Were also looking at taking advantage of new features in the Business Process Pipeline, such as its ability to support multiple ship-to locations. Why Dell Chose Commerce Server 2000 Dell selected Microsoft Commerce Server 2000 because it provided extensive out-of-the-box functionality that easily could be integrated into the existing complex environment. We looked atseveral other products, but Commerce Server 2000 was the easiest to extend and get into production, says Hansen. The greatest benefits provided by Commerce Server 2000 are its extensive out-of-the-box functionality combin ed with a flexible component-based architecture thatcan be easily extended. With just six weeks of development, we were able to customize and integrate its prebuilt functionality into our existing environment, resulting in better performance, improved stability, and extensive new campaign management capabilities. This is alarming Madam. Eleanor Pineda That is correct and it is disturbing in our end. We pick out been running(a) it out to hit and surpassed every years projection, however the opposition with wholly the colleges and universities around Angeles City makes the competition stiffer. As you keep observe, we are primed(p) in a market saturated with lots of tertiary schools which also offers diverse courses. Ms. Rowena T. Selom, Administrator STI College Angeles. This wil l definitely serve as a argufy to you Eleanor as a newly hired Marketing Officer. You will be in-charge in initially encouraging fresh graduates of secondary level to be check of our school, and promoting our identity within the circle of Pampanga. Thank you Madam, I will certainly be aiming helpful hands for me to materialize the projection of the school. Eleanor Pineda Competition gets stiffer, The City College of Angeles will become one of our greatest concerns, since according to the news I buzz off heard, the construction of its building (classrooms and laboratories) will be fully utilized by second semester of this school year. It might even compete w ell with Holy Angel University and Angeles University Foundation, because hearsays is that it will offer affordable tuition requitals like all other government initiated colleges. Indeed, we should watch that scenario as well. Mary Ann Canlas, Finance Manager. A moment of whitewash engrossed the room Oh.. before I forget, I would like to remind you that our monthly brush for July will be on Friday next week (July 20, 2012) unneurotic with our President, Mr. Condrado M. Kindly formulate ideas and recommendations that would help STI College Angeles sustain its existence, profitably. Ill give my best Madam, and present only the best. , this statement was followed by a confident smile and a wink. Everyone separated path and get to accordingly B. COMPANY BACKGROUND SYLLABUS, Inc. Background SYLLABUS, INC. (Symbol Sciences Languages and Laboratories for stock, Incorporation) was established with the purpose of bringing to the country side the fast emerging Information engineering. The company believed that through with(predicate) applied science the Filipino youth can become truly globally competitive.Sharing the same vision for the Filipino youth, thru franchise agreement with Systems Technology Institute (STI) the first STI school in Pampanga was opened. In February 12, 1987 at Evangelista Bldg. , Mac Arthur Hiway, Angeles City (now located at Agsons Bldg. , Mac Arthur Hiway Balibago, Angeles City). Through the constant change in the industry STI change its product slowly integrated itself into education industry as a school that provides boundless passage opportunities through ICT-enhance, non-IT programs such as the B.S in logical argument Administration and BS in Hotel Restaurant and Management. STI College Angeles branch was the pioneer franchise of SYLLABUS, Inc. , and because of the passion of Mr. Condrado M. Day rit to continuously be a channel of quality education he later on decided to franchise other STI College sites STI College San Fernando (1988), STI College Nueva Ecija (1991) and STI College Guagua (1998). Unfortunately, because of economic crisis and downturns STI College Guagua and Nueva Ecija were closed, leaving San Fernando and Angeles in its existence. STI San Fernando is located at 2/F Titas Bldg. Gapan-Olongapo Road, City of San Fernando (Capital), Pampanga and is labelled as the main branch of STI College beneath the franchise of SYLLABUS. SYLLABUS, Inc. Vision and Mission Vision Statement To be a world-class institution primarily engaged in education and training offering a wide range of technology establish courses. Mission Statement SYLLABUS, Inc. exists primarily for bringing high quality, technology based education and training to areas outside the Metro Manila in order to assist in the process of countryside development and de-urbanization.It is also the purpose of SYLLABUS, Inc. to harness its resources of people, money, technology and management know how in order to establish upstream and downstream enterprises and subsidiaries that will continuously provide opportunities for the companys own graduates, faculty, staff and the residential area at large. STI COLLEGE.. A Taste of History It all started when four visionaries conceptualized setting up a training center to fill very specific hands needs. It was in the early 80s when Augusto C. Lagman, Herman T. Gamboa, Benjamin A. Santos, and Edgar H.Sarte four entrepreneurs and friends came together to set up Systems Technology Institute, a training center that delivers basic programming education to professionals and students who lack to learn this new skill. Lagman, Gamboa, and Sarte were all heavily involved in the growing computer industry, while Santos just retired from his IT position in a pharmaceutical company. Sartes software house, Systems Resources Incorporated (SRI), kept losing p rogrammers and analysts to jobs abroad. Programmers and analysts were a rare breed thusly, with only a few training centers offering courses on computer programming. There was clear need to find and hire people for SRI, and fulfil the need of a growing business industry that was migrating to automated or computerized business processes. The founders transformed the problem into an opportunity. Systems Technology Institutes name came from countless brainstorming sessions among the founders, perhaps from Sartes penchant for three-letter acronyms from the companies he managed at the time. The first two schools were inaugurated on August 21, 2983 in Buendia, Makati and in Espana, Manila and offered basic computer programming courses. With a unique and superior product on their hands, it was not difficult to expand the franchise through the founders business contacts. A year after the first two schools opened, the franchise grew to include STI Binondo, Cubao, and Taft. A unique value prop osition spelled the difference for the STI brand then First Well Tech You, Then Well Hire You. Through its unique Guaranteed Hire Program (GHP), all qualified graduates were offered jobs by one of the founders companies, or through their contacts in the industry. The schools 1st batch of graduates, all 11 of them, were hired by SRI.And through GHP, more qualified STI graduates found themselves working(a) in their field of interest lawful out of school. No one among the four founders imagined that the Systems Technology Institute would become a college, or would grow to have over 100 schools across the country. but it did, all because of its unique value proposition, the synergy between the founders and their personnel, and the managements faithfulness to quality. Before the 1990s ended, STI also recognized the younger generations need to superior IT-enabled education. It was during this time that STI started to venture into basic and secondary education. With its vast experience in managing tertiary level campuses, STI understood the responsibility of providing the same quality of learning tools and experiences to preparatory, elementary, and high school students. The outcome was the launch of the STI Basic Education and STI High School. The STI Colleges provide bloke, baccalaureate, and masteral programs in the fields of Information and Communications Technology (ICT), Engineering, Business and Management, Hospitality and Tourism Management, Education, and Healthcare. These programs are duly accredited by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). TESDA programs under the Colleges can also be ladderized with exit points that equip graduates with TESDA Certifications and the option to continue further studies in programs accredited by CHED. STI Vision We envision a technologically empowered society whose development and growth is driven by a experience-based workforce. STI Mission To be t he leader in ICT-enabled human resource development through innovative learning and career planning methodologies.STI Values * Respect * Excellence * Malasakit * Meritocracy * Teamwork * Entrepreneurship * Service The following individuals are those who have control and influence in the termination making activities of STI College Angeles (SYLLABUS). ALTERNATIVES July 20, 2012 130 P. M (STI College San Fernando group Room) Condrado (SYLLABUS, President) Its nice to finally meet you personally Eleanor, welcome to SYLLABUS. Eleanor (STI Angeles, Marketing Officer) Its my pleasure to meet you Mr. President. Thank you for the warm welcome that I have been receiving from all of you. Mary Ann (SYLLABUS, Finance Manager) Since everyone is settled already, I think we can now start Mr. President. The main agenda we have for todays meeting is the issues being face by STI College Angeles in failing to ac hieve the projected number of new student every school year. Condrado (President) Okay, that is clear with me. How can we address such dilemma then? Rowena (STI Angeles, Administrator) I believe that we must continue investing in improving our facilities and equipment. If students have good equipment to use in their studies and can see nice facilities within our vicinity they will be spreading news on how good it is to be part of STI and will be promote to enroll. In addition, we must do additional effort in promoting our school by doing double effort in our promotion and advertising activities for 2012. Visit more schools sponsor seminars, events, and competitions make STI existence visible to the public by displaying multiple STI banners, billboards, and flyers indicating the courses we offer and the location for them to reach us. Condrado (President) Isnt that we have been doing the same things before? Avelina (STI Angeles, Academic Head) That is genuine Mr.President, however I b elieve that Rowenas suggestion is only one of the strategies that we can do to achieve our projected number of students. Yes we can improve our trustworthy facilities and equipment within the school and it can attract more students but additional students require additional space. As of the moment, our location can accommodate less than cholecalciferol students and we still experience minor problems in terms of room assignment and space. If our objective is to increase students and to meet our projected number of enrollees, we must start in preparing a better building first.A new building with larger and spacious structure, plus a visible facade will be an effective marketing strategy. Condrado (President) Hmm our place is really not visible to the public. Mary Ann (Finance Manager) Your proposal is for STI Angeles to locate into a new building, larger than what we rent now a building with a visible facade for it to be more obvious to the public. The intention is good, but we must consider the financial status of STI Angeles before we can decide on that. Condrado (President) Can we now hear your proposal Eleanor? Eleanor (STI Angeles, Marketing Officer) Yes Mr.President, as I have listened carefully and as a result of my observation with the previous years of STI Angeles the problem that we wanted to conquer is to get the target number of students. The solution that I would like to propose is Internal Marketing with STI Students. In every 1 student he/she should migrate 4 students (transferee or new student then the student will be given a gift of knowledge of 50% scholarship in tuition fee. And in every 6 students enrolled by 1 student, he/she will be given 100% scholarship plus a uniform and any STI kit.The way I came with the computation is shown in the screen 50% Gift of knowledge (GOK) 100% Gift of Knowledge (GOK) 1 student = 20,000 (estimated payment, 50% GOK)4 student = 80,000 (enrolled)_________________________________________Total 60,000 10,000 (m iscellaneous fee and OSF)__________________________________________ 70,000 (School) 1 student = 20,000 (estimated payment, 100% GOK)6 student = 120,000 (enrolled)___________________________________________Total 100,000 5,000 (Miscellaneous fee and OSF)___________________________________________ 105,000 (School)Other resolution is to have rental fee for any available rooms that we have Example a. Kitchen laboratory (700-900 pm) class for any tutorial culinary (others). b. Computer laboratory (700-900 pm) class for any tutorial in computers (others). c. Marketing strategy with the help of any organizations like SM Supermalls in SM City Clark. d. Sponsoring activities of any high school (example held a competition within their school or tabulations with their school or having seminars) e. Talk to different school principals and have communications like school open house (some of the principals need an exposure). . Posting out STI College Angeles through the use of streamers. Condrado ( President) I love the zest of ideas that are coming from everyones mind. Give me an action plan and a feasibility study on all your suggestions, present it to me next month. Lets call it a day *end* Gratitude to the following people who provided me the information and data to complete my term paper. Mrs. Rowena T. Selom, Administrator of STI College Angeles. Mr. Mark P. Arent they the family whocontrols the vampire part of the Night World Council? The most important family of all the lamia, theborn vampires. Descended directly from Maya, the fabled first vampire. And Hunter Redfern is theirleader, the upholder of Night World law, the one who colonized America with vampires back in thesixteen hundreds. Tell me if Im getting any of this wrong. He gave her a cold glance. You see, we have our sources. And I seem to remember them mentioning your name, too. You weremade a vampire by Hunter and since his own children were all daughters, youre also his heir.Quinn laughed sourly. Yes, well, thats an on-again, off-again thing. You might say I have a love-haterelationship with the Redferns. We spend most of the time wishing each other at the bottom of the Atlanti c.Teh, vampire family infighting, Rashel said. Why is it always so hard to get along with your folks?Despite her light words, she had to focus to keep control of her breathing. It wasnt fear. She truly wasnt scared of him. It was something like confusion. Clearly, she should bekilling him at this effect instead of chattingwith him. She couldnt understand why she wasnt doing it.The only excuse she had was that it seemed to make him even more confused and angry than it did her.I dont think youve heard enough about me, he said, demonstrate his teeth. Im your worst nightmare, human. I even shock other vampires. Like old Hunter he has certain ideas about propriety. How youkill, and who. If he knew some of the things I do, hed fall down dead himself.Good old Hunter, Rashel thought. The truehearted moral patriarch of the Redfern clan, still caught up in theseventeenth century. He might be a vampire, but he was definitely a New Englander.Maybe I should find a way to tell him, she said whim sically.Quinn gave her another cold look, this time tempered with respect. Then, as if he were surprised himself, he said, John.John Quinn. John.I didnt realize you to call me it.All right, whatever. She said it absently, deep in thought. John Quinn. Just when she was sure he wouldnt answer, he said, I was-I wanted to get married one ofhis daughters. Her name was Dove. You wanted to marry a vampire?I didnt know she was a vampire This time Quinns voice was quick and impatient. Hunter Redfernwas certain in Charlestown. Granted, a few bulk said his wife had been a witch, but in those dayspeople said that if you smiled in church. So he just lived there and nobody knew, Rashel said. Most people accepted him. A faint mocking smile curved Quinns lips. My own father accepted him,and he was the minister.Despite herself, Rashel was fascinated. And you had to be a vampire to marry her? Dove, I mean.I didnt get to marry her, Quinn said tonelessly. He seemed as surprised as she was that he was intercourseher these things. But he went on, seeming to speak almost to himself. Hunter wanted me to marry one ofhis other daughters. I said Id rather marry a pig. Garnet-thats the oldest-was about as interesting as as fall into place of wood. And Lily, the middle one, was evil. I could see that in her eyes. I only wanted Dove. And you told him that? Of course. He agreed to it finally-and then he told me his familys secret. Well.Quinn laughed bitterly. He didnt tell me, actually. It was more of a demonstration. When I woke up, Iwas dead and a vampire. It was quite an experience.Rashel opened her mouth and then shut it again, trying to imagine the horror of it. Finally she just said, I bet. They sat for a moment in silence. Rashel had never felt so close to a vampire. Instead of disgust andhatred, she felt pity. But what happened to Dove? Quinn seemed to tense all over. She died, he saidnastily. It was clear that his confidences were over. How?None of your business Rashel tilted her head and looked at him soberly. How, John Quinn? Youknow, there are some things you really ought to tell other people. It might help.I dont need a damn psychoanalyst, he spat. He was furious now, and there was a dark light in hiseyes that ought to have frightened Rashel. He looked as wild as she felt sometimes, when she didnt carewho she hurt. She wasnt frightened. She was strangely calm, the kind of calm she felt when her breathing exercisesmade her feel one with the earth and perfectly sure of her path.Look, Quinn-I really think youd better kill me now, he said tightly. Unless youre too thick-skulled or too scared. Thiswood wont hold forever, you know. And when I get out, Im going to use that sword on you.Startled, Rashel looked down at Vickys handcuffs. They were bent. Not the oak, of course-it was themetal hinges that were coming apart. Soon hed have enough room to slip them off.He was very strong, even for a vampire. And then, with the same odd calm, she realized what she was going to do.Yes, thats a salutary idea, she said. Keep bending them. I can say thats how you got out. What are you talking about?Rashel got up and searched for a steel knife to cut the cords on his feet. Im letting you go, Jo hn Quinn, she said.He paused in his wrench of the handcuffs. Youre insane, he said, as if hed just discovered this. You may be right. Rashel found the knife and slit by dint of the bast cords. He gave the handcuffs a twist. If, he said deliberately, you think that because I was a human once, Ihave any pity on them, you are very, very wrong. I hate humans more than I hate the Redferns. Why?He bared his teeth. No, thank you. I dont have to condone anything to you. Just take my word for it.She believed him. He looked as angry and as dangerous as an sentient being in a trap. All right, she said, stepping back and putting her hand on the hilt of her bokken. Take your best shot. But remember, I beatyou once. I was the one who knocked you out.He blinked. Then he shook his head in disbelief. You little idiot, he said. I wasnt paying attention. Ithought you were another of those jerks falling over their own feet. And I wasnt even fighting themseriously. He sat up in one fluid movement that showed the strength he had, and the control of his own body. You dont have a chance, he said softly, turning those dark eyes on her. Now that he wasnt lookinginto the flashlight, his pupils were huge. Youre dead already.Rashel had a sinking feeling that was telling her the same thing.Im faster than any human, the soft voice went on. Im stronger than any human. I can see better in thedark. And Im much, much nastier.Panic exploded inside Rashel. All at once, she believed him absolutely. She couldnt seem to get her breath, and a void had opened inher stomach. She lost any vestige of her previous calm.Hes right-you were an idiot, she told herself wildly. You had every chance to stop him and you blew it.And why? Because you were sorry for him? Sorry for a deranged monster whos going to tear you armfrom limb now? Anyone as stupid as that deserves what they get.She felt as if she were falling, unable to get hold of anything. And then suddenly she did seem to catch something. Something that s he clung to desperately, trying toresist the fear that wanted to suck her into darkness. You couldnt have done anything else.It was the little voice in her mind, being helpful for once. And, strangely, Rashel knew it was true. Shecouldnt have killed him when he was tied up and helpless, not without becoming a monster herself. Andafter hearing his story, she couldnt have ignored the pity she felt.Im probably going to die now, she thought. And Im still scared. But Id do it over again. It was right. She hung on to that as she let the last seconds tick away, the last window of opportunity to stake himwhile the cuffs still held. She knew they were ticking away, and she knew Quinn knew. What a shame to pull your throat out, he said.Rashel held her ground.Quinn gave the handcuffs a final wrench, and the metal hinges squealed. Then the stocks clattered ontothe concrete and he stood up, free. Rashel couldnt see his face anymore it was above the reach of theflashlight.Well, he said evenly.Rashe l whispered, Well. They stood facing each other.Rashel was waiting for the detailed involuntary body movements that would give away which direction hewas going to lunge. But he was more still than any enemy shed ever seen. He kept his tension inside, ready to explode only when he directed it. His control seemed to be complete.Hes got zanshin, she thought.Youre very good, she said softly.Thanks. So are you.Thanks.But it isnt going to matter in the end.Rashel started to say, Well see-and he lunged. She had an instants warning. A barely perceptible movement of his leg told her he was going to spring tohis right, her left. Her body reacted without her direction, moving smoothly and she didnt realize untilshe was doing it that she wasnt using the sword. She had stepped forward, inside his attack, and deflected it with a mirror palm block, striking the innerside of his arm with her left arm. Hitting the nerves to try and numb the limb. But not cutting him. She realized with a dizzy sense of horror that she didnt want to use the sword on him.You are going to die, idiot, he told her, and for an instant she wasnt sure if it was him saying it or thevoice in her head. She tried to push him away. All she could think was that she needed time, time to get her survivalreflexes back. She shoved at himand then her bare hand brushed his, and something happened that was completely beyond her experience.

Article Public Opinion of Police by Different Ethnic Group Essay

Down though the years thither has always been tension and an on and off relationship between the community they serve and impartiality enforcement agencies. And as with any relationship between two people on that point are misunderstanding, break-up and disagreements and the same is with the relationship between the community and its law enforcement agencies exactly just with any relationship at days end both the community and law enforcement put up and share common concerns such as justice and deterrence. With many of communities in America be incursion of immigrants within the last few decades with this incursion of immigrants many communities are universe bombard with so many new language and cultures diversity. Because of this wide range of ethnicity now living within many the walls of our communities and ordering on a whole now have different opinions and views of law enforcement. Now due to the diverse ethnicities flooding our communities the author will investigate how a few of these ethnicity groups like African Americans, Asians and the Latinos neighborhoods views racial profiling, contrariety and past experience with law enforcement agencies.Taking a look at the traumatized relationship and association between the two, as well as the interaction and reaction from the law enforcement agencies and the communities they serve. Since the conception of the law enforcement agencies race has languish since been a vital playing card in policing. Even with the knowledge, awareness and understanding of this there has been slightly improvement but not enough. Racial opus of law enforcement alongside the racial outline of arrest, the rise up in the number of arrest of non- minority like Caucasian by non-white law enforcement officers, while there were lower numbers of arrest by the same officers on other ethnic groups. On the discombobulate side of that coin, more Caucasian officers had a boost in the number of non-white arrest in similarity to the n umber of arrest involving Caucasians. Race has been a polarizingelement the in the society of America for years. And this is every so general within the criminal justice system. Clashes involving both the communities and law enforcement are the flashpoint for practically every latest inner- city riot. Ethnic Groups. The raise of culture variety and immigration has from clock time to time made interaction with law enforcement difficult. Hispanics and Asian neighborhoods are often apprehensive of law enforcement officers due to their past occurrence. Their past incidents variegate from their motherland of origin that was overwhelmed by civil unrest and war. This included exploitation of power by those of self-assurance as well as much dishonesty within law enforcement agencies of that country. For this cause many minorities groups have a apprehension and more often than not an aversion to law enforcement officers.Like within the Hispanic neighborhoods, they often feel that law enf orcement agents differentiates them by racial profiling them all because of their nationality. In Arizona this is a very contentious SB 1070 unlawful migration bill that passed given law enforcement agents the power and authority to need of certain individual (Hispanic) of proof of documentation of legal right to be in America. This law is being adopted in other states as well like New Jersey and Texas, any where there is a high population of Hispanics.IthasbeenreportedbytwoethnicgroupsAfricanAmericansandHispanic/Latinos affirm subordinate levels of agreement concerning their relationship with police officers as compared to those of their copy Caucasians. African Americans and Hispanic/Latinos claims that there is less willingness to obey and to follow orders given by administration especially of Caucasian origin. Racial profiling has consistently been one of the close confounding, divisive and controversial issues the police subdivision confronts. A perception that police targ et members of specific ethnic or racial groups creates a sibylline divide between the police and the communities we serve. But as an officer who has spent a lot of time patrolling the citys streets, I just dont think the perception is accurate. (Dutta, 2010) True racial profiling, in which people are targeted solely because of race or ethnicity, is both illegal and immoral. It destroys public assumption and reduces the effectiveness of the police. There is no place for it in law enforcement. And I firmly believe that most LAPD officers support that viewpoint. Even the reported statement of the officer that he couldnt do his job without racial profiling was most likely misinterpreted.(Dutta, 2010) Differentiation between minorities and Caucasians is how they relate and response to law enforcement agents and how fairly or unjustly he or she feels their treatment was. This is a how many African Americans and Hispanic/Latinos responded when asked by authorities regarding their relation ship with law enforcement agencies this is less equality than when Caucasians reported.
